Magazine
The rich mosaic of peoples and cultures of North America,
South America, Central America and the Caribbean comes to life on the pages of
Américas,
the vividly illustrated magazine published by the Organization of American
States.
Coordination
of Activities for the General Assemblies
The office offers logistical support to the Secretariat for Conference
and Meetings for preparation of the
General Assembly,
especially with regards to press facilities, video recordings, satellite
transmission, webcast, maintenance of the website, services for
journalists, and other general media consultancy
Coordination
of Activities for the Lecture Series of the Americas
The office also offers logistical support for the
Lecture Series
of the Americas, including media coverage, satellite transmission,
webcast, video recordings, production of television programs, and
maintenance of the website.
Graphic
Design
The department provides graphic design services for the
other units of the office and for other areas of the OAS. This includes
websites, brochures, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and other products. The main events that
use this service are the
General Assembly
and the Latin American Film Festival
News clips
The
News Bulletin
provides summaries from the print media about current events in the hemisphere.
This material is prepared daily.
Photography
This section covers OAS events by providing high resolution photography
for media publication and for distribution to the Permanent Missions.
Photographs are selected and posted immediately after events under the “Photo
Gallery” page of the OAS website. The online photo gallery serves as
a digital archive of photographs selected for publication.
Photos are indexed chronologically and are also
searchable by keyword.
Press Releases are prepared in English and Spanish for dissemination
to the hemisphere through international news agencies, correspondents,
radio and television stations, as well as through Permanent Mission
Offices of Member States and OAS Offices of the Secretary General in the
Member Countries.
Radio
The Voice of the OAS
produces a Spanish-speaking program, “Escenario”, which transmits through radio
stations in Latin America and which includes information about events related
to the hemispheric agenda. For the English-speaking audiences of Caribbean
countries, The Voice produces a program called “Focus on the Americas”,
a weekly half-hour show distributed on compact discs and through radio
stations.
TV
Coverage
The OAS provides live coverage of the Organization’s activities,
including presidential visits, regular and special sessions of the
Permanent Council, activities of the Secretary General, and press
conferences. Coverage features a direct fiber optic line for TV networks
with the additional capacity for satellite connection.
Videos
Video coverage, recording and editing of OAS meetings and activities in
addition to production of
TV Spotsand programs like
Americas Alive. Copies of documentaries are sold on the OAS
website.
Videoconference
The office uses its own equipment to carry out video conferences through
an ISDN line. This service is utilized by countries’ missions and by OAS
units. The videoconference rooms “expand or contract” easily. Video
screens can vary in number and size, according to the number of
attendees.
Web
The department is responsible for the information architecture of the
OAS
portal, including titles, links, design and content of the OAS
homepage as well as the Department of Communications and External
Relations pages.
Webcast
Live
Transmissions of OAS activities, in the four official languages, play
an important role. Meetings are streamed live and then archived on the
webpage
Videos on Demand. The service is announced ahead of time by email
through an Event Triggered
Email Announcement System.
