Americas Magazine

The rich mosaic of peoples and cultures of North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean comes to life on the pages of Américas, the vividly illustrated magazine published by the Organization of American States.

Coordination of Activities for the General Assemblies

The office offers logistical support to the Secretariat for Conference and Meetings for preparation of the General Assembly, especially with regards to press facilities, video recordings, satellite transmission, webcast, maintenance of the website, services for journalists, and other general media consultancy

Coordination of Activities for the Lecture Series of the Americas

The office also offers logistical support for the Lecture Series of the Americas, including media coverage, satellite transmission, webcast, video recordings, production of television programs, and maintenance of the website.

Graphic Design

The department provides graphic design services for the other units of the office and for other areas of the OAS. This includes websites, brochures, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and other products. The main events that use this service are the General Assembly and the Latin American Film Festival

News clips

The News Bulletin provides summaries from the print media about current events in the hemisphere. This material is prepared daily.

Photography

This section covers OAS events by providing high resolution photography for media publication and for distribution to the Permanent Missions. Photographs are selected and posted immediately after events under the “Photo Gallery” page of the OAS website. The online photo gallery serves as a digital archive of photographs selected for publication. Photos are indexed chronologically and are also searchable by keyword.

Press Releases

Press Releases are prepared in English and Spanish for dissemination to the hemisphere through international news agencies, correspondents, radio and television stations, as well as through Permanent Mission Offices of Member States and OAS Offices of the Secretary General in the Member Countries.

Radio

The Voice of the OAS produces a Spanish-speaking program, “Escenario”, which transmits through radio stations in Latin America and which includes information about events related to the hemispheric agenda. For the English-speaking audiences of Caribbean countries, The Voice produces a program called “Focus on the Americas”, a weekly half-hour show distributed on compact discs and through radio stations.

TV Coverage

The OAS provides live coverage of the Organization’s activities, including presidential visits, regular and special sessions of the Permanent Council, activities of the Secretary General, and press conferences. Coverage features a direct fiber optic line for TV networks with the additional capacity for satellite connection.

Videos

Video coverage, recording and editing of OAS meetings and activities in addition to production of TV Spots and programs like Americas Alive. Copies of documentaries are sold on the OAS website.

Videoconference

The office uses its own equipment to carry out video conferences through an ISDN line. This service is utilized by countries’ missions and by OAS units. The videoconference rooms “expand or contract” easily. Video screens can vary in number and size, according to the number of attendees.

Web

The department is responsible for the information architecture of the OAS portal, including titles, links, design and content of the OAS homepage as well as the Department of Communications and External Relations pages.

Webcast

Live Transmissions of OAS activities, in the four official languages, play an important role. Meetings are streamed live and then archived on the webpage Videos on Demand. The service is announced ahead of time by email through an Event Triggered Email Announcement System.
